Investors in People

Investors in People LogoIn December 2006, the Council underwent its fourth post recognition Review, since being awarded the Investor in People Standard in 1995. We were assessed against the four key principles:

• Commitment - to invest in people to achieve business goals

• Planning - how skills, individuals and teams are to be developed to achieve these goals

• Action - to develop and use necessary skills in a well defined and continuing programme directly tied to business objectives

• Evaluation - of outcomes on training and development for individuals' progress towards goals, the value achieved and future needs

Having carried out the Review at the end of 2006, the Assessors were ‘satisfied beyond any doubt that Knowsley Council continues to meet the requirements of the IIP National Standard’.

Equality and Diversity Strategy

Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council is firmly committed to supporting equality and diversity - as an employer, as a service provider and as a community leader. This commitment is shared by members and officers alike. Our corporate equality and diversity group is chaired by the chief executive, and is supported by both a set of departmental groups and an inclusive set of operational working groups.

Our approach includes a comprehensive equality and diversity policy which outlines our commitment to identifying and removing barriers that discriminate or prevent equal access to services and employment.

The equality and diversity policy is supported by a strategy, which is directly relative to facilitating the Knowsley Council vision “to be an excellent Council improving people´s lives”. Within all of our commitments we include valuing diversity and respecting others.

Our equality and diversity agenda is not just about responding to targets set by legislation or reaching performance objectives, it is about how we behave towards each other every day of our lives. As a Council we are the borough's biggest employer and the services we provide affect everyone who lives or works in, or visits Knowsley. We aim to make sure that everyone is confident of being able to access our services, seek employment and take an active part within the communities of the borough without the fear of prejudice or discrimination.

Positive about Disabled People

Positive about disabled people logoThis symbol is a commitment to all people with disabilities, registered or not. If your disability affects the kind of work you do you should consider registering as a disabled person (ask at your local Job Centre). As a symbol user, we have made the following commitments:

• To interview all applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for the job vacancy and consider them on their abilities.

• To ask disabled employees at least once a year what can be done to make sure they can develop and use their abilities in work.

• To make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment.

• To take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make the commitments work.

• Each year, to review these commitments and what has been achieved, plan ways to improve on them and let all employees know about progress and future plans.
